Basic accessories

This short article is intended especially for complete beginners interested in breeding reptiles or for people who are aspiring to be a breeder. I have created an inventory of several basic tools and equipment that a terrarium cannot do without.

Tweezer - One of the most basic tools you can hardly do without. Tweezers are primarily used to feed your pets by hand, but they can often also be used to pick up the feces that your pets leave behind. I personally recommend both iron and wooden tweezers. It is a very useful and affordable tool that should not be missing in any household, let alone in the household of a reptile breeder.

Water sprayer - This tool is especially necessary for moisture-loving species of animals and plants. I recommend buying a more expensive pressure type of sprayer, because it works much better than with the usual one.

Thermometer - A thermometer is the basis if you do not want to bake or freeze your favorite pet. A classic analog thermometer will suffice, although of course the digital thermometer is more accurate.

Heating Pads - A heating pad is a great thing. I like to use them either just for heating itself or just for reheating a certain part of the terrarium. They are relatively cheap and have low power consumption. I personally prefer the type with a built-in rotary temperature controller, which can partially replace a thermostat, which is much more expensive. Select the required wattage of the mat according to the size of the terrarium.

Electric scale - Electric scale is very important from my point of view. I don't know about the others, but we keep detailed statistics of weight gain in our breeding. It is important to control the weight of your individuals, because their weight can tell you a lot about animals. For example, our beardie Steve did not eat any food for a long period of time (approximately 2 months), but his weight hardly changed, so we knew he was fine.

Mechanical Outlet Timer - This thing is not a complete necessity in terrariums, but it can help you a lot. In addition, it can maintain a precise schedule of day and night for the animals, which is very important.
